Clinical Trial Co-ordinator – Band 6 – NHS Blood and Transplant CTU

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is a Special Health Authority and an integral part of the NHS. In addition to providing blood components and donated organs to the NHS, NHSBT, in collaboration with the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford and Bristol conducts world-class research in the fields of transfusion medicine, organ donation, tissues and stem cells.

The NHSBT Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) holds full registration with the UKCRC, and supports the translation of this laboratory research into clinical practice, as well as performing studies that will optimise the use of blood components, or improve the quality of organs for donation. We conduct a range of different studies from large randomised controlled trials to small first in man studies. The CTU team is located in NHSBT offices in Bristol, Cambridge and Oxford. Our trials are funded from a variety of sources, including the NHSBT R&D Committee and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funding streams.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated clinical trial coordinator to join the friendly CTU team in Cambridge to support our portfolio of trials. NHSBT CTU is managing a NIHR HTA funded multicentre observational cohort study which is investigating whether ultrasound surveillance can reliably predict arteriovenous fistulae failure in patients with chronic kidney disease. The SONAR study is currently in the set up phase and the post holder will primarily be expected to support the ongoing activities for this study, with support from an experienced project manager, and a trial manager. There may also be an opportunity to contribute to other studies from the portfolio.

You will have a first degree or post-graduate qualification in a health related subject, and experience of coordinating and monitoring clinical trials in the public sector. Knowledge of renal disease/dialysis would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills as well as knowledge of ICH-GCP and clinical trials legislation, governance and regulations. Commensurate with NHSBT status as a national organisation, candidates must also be able to travel for internal meetings on occasion in addition to travel to study sites.

This is a full time position, to be based within NHSBT’s offices on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
