The Medical Statistics group, based in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Plymouth, provides a methodological platform and support for large-scale and wide-ranging clinical trials and research projects. The group’s research encompasses clinical trials and pragmatic health services research (e.g. RCTs of medicinal products and complex interventions) and biomedical and clinical studies (e.g. screening and diagnostics; longitudinal studies), with strong links with the Faculty’s clinical trials and population studies and biomedical research groups. Find out more about what we do: Medical Statistics.

We have established networks with local collaborators, including the UKCRC-registered Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit (PenCTU), local NHS providers, NIHR Research Design Service (RDS) South West and University of Plymouth School of Computing, Electronics & Mathematics, as well as with research groups nationally and internationally.  The group has hosted the Down’s Syndrome screening Quality Assurance Support Service (DQASS) since its inception in 2006.  We are now looking to recruit highly motivated statisticians with expertise in medical statistics and clinical trials to contribute to our research, consultancy and teaching activities, as well as developing the methodological work of the Plymouth based team.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated statistician with expertisise in medical statistics and clinical trials to contribute to our research, consultancy and teaching activities, as well as developing the methodological work of the group. We are open to appointing a Senior Research Fellow or Associate Professor.  The Medical Statistics group liaises closely with the co-located Research Design Service South West local office, contributing to the development of high quality grant applications, with our statisticians often being co-applicants.  For interested candidates, there is the possibility of a post jointly funded with the RDS SW.

As a Senior Research Fellow you will be expected to take a leading role to support externally funded research projects, including clinical trials, and to identify and develop research ideas and develop these into funding proposals.  You will contribute to the teaching commitments of the group.  You will also be expected to supervise postgraduate research students and provide support and mentoring to less experienced colleagues.

As an Associate Professor you will have expertise in medical statistics and clinical trials and a growing record of both research outputs and reputation and securing project funding.  You will be expected to support externally funded research projects, including clinical trials, and to identify and develop research ideas and develop these into funding proposals.  You will contribute to the teaching commitments of the group.  You will also be expected to supervise postgraduate research students and provide support and mentoring to less experienced colleagues.

If you would like to discuss either of these opportunities further, please contact Siobhan Creanor, Lead for Medical Statistics and Director of PenCTU, by email siobhan.creanor@plymouth.ac.uk
