Clinical trials save lives and improve health — but did you know they can also impact the environment? From travel emissions to paper waste, research comes with a carbon footprint. But there’s a greener way forward.

Explainer animations for participants [March 2025]

The Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit (OCTRU), Nottingham CTU, and Centre for Trials Research have produced a number of Animated Explainer Videos (AEVs) which can be used to help individuals understand more about taking part in a trial.

AEVs on Informed Consent, Randomisation, and Safety in Clinical Trials are available in 6 languages.

Funded by the NIHR Efficient Clinical Trials Call, these AEVs are free to use for all registered CTUs.

The UKCRC Registered CTUs Network strongly endorse the implementation of the Good Practice Principles for sharing individual participant data from publicly funded clinical trials. A copy of the Guidance can be found here. The Network support the implementation of this guidance across its Registered CTUs and a task and finish group has been created in order to facilitate this. details can be found under the Sub Groups tab.
