Senior Trial Manager, Centre for Healthcare Randomised Trials (CHaRT)
Main purpose of the role:
The role of this post is to support the development and delivery of CHaRT’s portfolio of high-quality randomised controlled clinical trials. The Senior Trials Manager will assist the Director in developing and maintaining the trials portfolio, promoting the Centre’s activities at a national and international level. They will be responsible for leading a team of trial managers and data coordinators. They will oversee the administration of CHaRT’s portfolio from concept to completion, taking an active role in providing specialist trial management advice, contributing to the design and costing of new trial proposals and grant applications, and contributing to the presentation and publication of results. They will contribute to the operation of CHaRT by representing the trial management and data coordinator team on the Centre’s senior management group (SMG) meetings and will be expected to work closely with other members of the Unit’s SMG to provide effective oversight of CHaRT’s operational management.
Key Responsibilities:
• Reporting directly to the CHaRT Director, liaises with Chief Investigators for each of the clinical trials, where appropriate
• Supports the Director and takes on responsibilities as required, deputising for the Director at Institute or School level or externally as needed
• Leads on the implementation of all aspects of CHaRT trial management policies and SOPs across the international CHaRT portfolio of trials.
• Takes responsibility for the development of trials from confirmation of funding to close of trial, including advising on all legislative issues and collaborating with the sponsors and other appropriate bodies (eg MHRA, Ethics Committees, Hospital Trusts).
• Works with other key members of the SMG (Senior IT Development manager and Quality Assurance Manager) to develop effective systems for monitoring CHaRT trial-specific activity, and data quality
• Ensures that all trials within the CHaRT portfolio comply with the appropriate requirements of research governance and regulation.
• Manages recruitment of new trial staff including drafting job descriptions, short-listing, and interviewing. Manages the offer and acceptance process, liaising with HR as appropriate.
• Ensures that CHaRT trials are delivered within target timescale and budget.
• Trains, oversees and line manages a team of trial managers and other trials staff across all the trials in the CHaRT portfolio (including CTIMPs and international studies)
• Collaborates with national and international groups to set standards and maintain trial management initiatives (eg UKCRC, NIHR TMN) to improve efficiency in delivery of clinical trials.
• Helps ensure CHaRT remains at the forefront of developments in the methodology of clinical trials, by attending relevant conferences and training.
