The Robertson Centre for Biostatistics is part of the Institute of Health and Wellbeing, within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS). It is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for the design, conduct and analysis of major international multi-centre clinical trials, epidemiological studies and other research projects in conjunction with medical and biological researchers in the pharmaceutical industry, the National Health Service and other research partners. The Centre’s primary objective is to contribute to research projects that will improve the treatment of patients and the practice of medicine.
The Robertson Centre is part of Glasgow Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), which was one of the first UK Clinical Research Collaboration registered CTUs. It currently employs 70 people with expertise in biostatistics, data management, software development, health informatics, and project management; a well-established staff group, many of whom have been in post for more than 10 years.
The Centre is currently seeking two new members of staff:
– Independent Biostatistician. This post is an excellent opportunity for a statistician with substantial experience of applying their skills in medical research. It will involve working on major research projects with the support of senior colleagues, and taking a leading role in collaborative research projects, from the design stage, securing grant funding, through to final analysis and publication.
– Junior Biostatistician. This post is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified statistician, or a statistician with limited experience of working in medical research. It will involve working under supervision, carrying out statistical programming, analysis, reporting and validation.
Both posts offer the opportunity to work on studies of various designs and sizes, in a broad range of clinical areas. The successful candidates will be joining a committed and experienced team, with a strong track record in high-quality published research.
For further information or to arrange an informal discussion regarding the roles, please contact Dr Alex McConnachie at Alex.McConnachie@glasgow.ac.uk.
These posts are full time and have funding for 2 years in the first instance.
