The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes, with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. We provided the first convincing evidence that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, laying the foundation for the now universally accepted idea that cancer is a genetic disease. Today, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) leads the world at isolating cancer-related genes and discovering new targeted drugs for personalised cancer treatment.
Under the leadership of our Chief Executive, Professor Paul Workman FRS, the ICR is ranked as the UK’s leading academic research centre. Together with our partner The Royal Marsden, we are rated in the top four cancer centres globally.
The ICR is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world to join us in our mission – to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.
ICR’s Clinical Trials and Statistics Unit (ICR-CTSU) is looking for a capable and experienced senior administrator to join its expanding team based at its Sutton site. ICR-CTSU runs a portfolio of national and international phase II & III non-commercial clinical trials with a special emphasis on breast and urology cancer treatments. ICR-CTSU currently employs more than 90 staff including statisticians, trial managers, data managers and research, IT and administrative support staff.
This post is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and well-motivated person to work in an academic environment at one of the leading National Cancer Research Institute accredited clinical trials units. The successful applicant will work in a small team providing high level research administration support to the Director and Deputy Directors of the Unit and other senior trials staff. Duties will include the management of finance relating to the ICR-CTSU core programme grant and individual clinical trial projects, administration of funding applications, maintenance of efficient and effective research administrative procedures and management of staff recruitment.
You should have a first degree and proven administrative and financial management experience, preferably within an academic or health services environment. In addition, you should have excellent inter-personal and communication skills and experience of organising a varied workload.
The appointment will be on a fixed term contract for 36 months (in the first instance) on the ICR Admin D or Admin E scale, based on previous experience. Part-time flexible working options may be considered.
When applying please provide a supporting statement explaining why you are applying for this post and the number of hours you wish to work; together with your CV and the names and addresses of two referees.
