The Medical Statistics group provides a methodological platform and support for large-scale and wide-ranging clinical trials and research projects. The group’s research encompasses clinical trials and pragmatic health services research (e.g. RCTs of medicinal products and complex interventions) and biomedical and clinical studies (e.g. screening and diagnostics; longitudinal studies), with strong links with the Faculty’s clinical trials and population studies and biomedical research groups. Find out more about what we do: Medical Statistics.
We have established networks with local collaborators, including the UKCRC-registered Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit (PenCTU), local NHS providers, NIHR Research Design Service South West and University of Plymouth School of Computing, Electronics & Mathematics, as well as with research groups nationally and internationally. The group has hosted the Down’s syndrome screening Quality Assurance Support Service (DQASS) since its inception in 2006. We are now looking to recruit a highly motivated statistician with expertise in medical statistics and clinical trials to contribute to our research, consultancy and teaching activities, as well as developing the methodological work of the Plymouth based team.
The University of Plymouth is based in a thriving waterfront city, at the heart of the beautiful South West. One of the largest universities in the region, our growing international reputation is matched by some exciting campus developments. With excellent national transport links, great shopping and culture, top sporting opportunities, pristine seas and south-coast sunshine, with the University of Plymouth you can live the lifestyle that only the South West peninsula can offer. Take a look at some of what Plymouth has to offer.
You will be expected both to support externally funded research projects, including clinical trials, and to identify and work with senior colleagues to develop research ideas and contribute to funding proposals. You will also contribute to the teaching commitments of the group, undertake supervision of postgraduate students including PhD students and mentor less experienced colleagues.
For an informal discussion, or to find out more about the role, please contact Professor Siobhan Creanor, Lead for Medical Statistics and Director of PenCTU, by email siobhan.creanor@plymouth.ac.uk.
You should tailor your application towards the Job Description for which you meet the criteria, although the university reserves the right to make an offer at the appropriate level in relation to skills and experience.
This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week but consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work 30 hours/week on a permanent basis.
Interviews are likely to take place mid-October 2019 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.
We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities.
The University of Plymouth is committed to equality of opportunity, promoting a diverse and inclusive culture, demonstrated through our commitment to the gender equality Athena SWAN Charter and as a Stonewall diversity champion. All applications will be judged solely on merit, however, we particularly welcome applications from groups currently under-represented in the workforce, for example black and minority ethnic groups.
University of Plymouth holds a TEF (Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework) Silver by the Office for Students.
The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry holds a Silver Athena Swan Award and the University holds a Bronze Athena SWAN Award which recognises commitment to advancing women’s careers in STEMM academia.
