Applications are invited from experienced software and IT professionals for the above position within Bangor University’s Clinical Trials Unit (NWORTH). This is an excellent opportunity to join an innovative and successful team engaged in the rewarding task of supporting clinical trials of complex interventions that inform clinical practice and have a positive impact on healthcare policy and patient outcomes.
This post would be well suited to a self-motivated candidate with strong software development, maintenance, deployment and support experience, who would enjoy the variety and challenge of leading a small team in a highly regulated environment. Reporting to the CTU Manager, you will lead the IT function at the Unit, managing and overseeing the development, configuration and support for a wide range of bespoke and API based applications that are critical to the success of our clinical trials. The role provides many opportunities for innovation and involves a range of activities across the full development cycle.
The role requires extensive knowledge of software development and software engineering techniques as well as experience of effectively designing technical solutions to meet requirements specifications. The postholder will be expected to provide expert advice and design expertise when new systems are required. They will implement new software and modify existing software in a controlled manner, with an emphasis on automated testing and software integrity. The use of new and innovative frameworks and techniques is encouraged, particularly for automated testing and documentation, software quality and software integration and deployment.
The postholder will plan, manage, and oversee the work of the IT team and lead the ongoing review and development of the IT function’s Standard Operating Procedures and service improvements. They will line manage IT team members and ensure that their work meets project requirements and timelines. They will oversee progress and provide regular reports to the CTU Director, CTU Manager and Core Operations Team.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a computing or related IT subject, or able to offer the equivalent in terms of education, professional training and experience.
The post is available full-time for a fixed-term period until 31st March 2023 in the first instance, with the potential for this being extended.
